About this conversion

WebVTT is commonly used for captions in web video players. This conversion adds the WEBVTT header and formats timestamp milliseconds with a dot. It keeps caption text and timing in a downloadable text file; it does not translate speech, transcribe a video or burn subtitles into the video image.

How it works, examples & FAQs

How to convert SRT to VTT

  1. Choose your SRT files.
  2. Review the preview and the output options. Select the correct input encoding if needed.
  3. Select Convert, review each result, then download the ready files.

Example

00:00:01,250 --> 00:00:03,750
Hello
becomes a WebVTT cue from 00:00:01.250 to 00:00:03.750. Output text is UTF-8.

Limits and common problems

Output uses UTF-8. Limits are 2 MiB per file and 20 MiB per batch. Advanced styling may not transfer.

A caption needs readable text and valid timestamps. Unsupported formatting may be removed; check the exported captions in the player where you plan to use them.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to add a video?

No. This tool converts an existing caption file. It does not inspect or change a video.

Why does the text look garbled?

The original SRT may use a legacy encoding. Select the correct input encoding, such as Windows-1256 for an appropriate Arabic file, and convert again.
