About this conversion

Use SRT when a player or editing workflow does not accept WebVTT. The file must begin with a WEBVTT header. This converter reads cue times and text, removes style and region blocks, and omits cue positioning settings. Notes are skipped. The result is a text caption file rather than a video with embedded captions.

How it works, examples & FAQs

How to convert VTT to SRT

  1. Choose your VTT files.
  2. Review the preview and the output options. Select the correct input encoding if needed.
  3. Select Convert, review each result, then download the ready files.

Example

A cue starting at 00:00:01.250 becomes an SRT cue starting at 00:00:01,250. Positioning instructions on its timing line are not carried into SRT.

Limits and common problems

Output uses UTF-8. Limits are 2 MiB per file and 20 MiB per batch. Advanced styling may not transfer.

A caption needs readable text and valid timestamps. Unsupported formatting may be removed; check the exported captions in the player where you plan to use them.

Frequently asked questions

Are WebVTT styles and regions kept?

No. Style blocks, regions and cue positioning are removed in this version. Review the output when placement or presentation matters.

What does Missing WEBVTT header mean?

A valid input for this tool starts with WEBVTT. Check that you selected a VTT caption file rather than another text format.
